Leadership Development

We are tenants and rely on tenants to lead the organization. We do this by developing the leadership skills and capacity of tenants to participate in and lead social change campaigns. MTO regularly hosts leadership development workshops and seminars, organizes local and citywide planning meetings, and engages tenants in public policy debates with public and elected officials. Tenants are involved in all aspects of MTO from serving on the Board of Directors to volunteering on our tenants rights hotline.

MTO provides a 6-part leadership development training free of charge to tenants. The program is repeated throughout the year, and includes the following topics:

  • Principles of Organizing
  • What is Leadership
  • Understanding Power and Change
  • Strategic Planning and Evaluation
  • One-on-ones
  • Media Strategy

A Leadership Development training series is scheduled to begin in March 2010. Classes are held every other Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
